Introduction

  • 80 3 1/2″ exterior screws
  • 1 box 16d galvanized nails
  • 4 door hinges and handle
  • 2 sheets 4’x8′ T1-11 siding

Tools

  • circular saw
  • miter saw
  • framing square
  • post hole digger
  • drill
  • 1/2″ drill bit
  • level
  • hammer

Instructions


Step 1: Lay out the posts


Using the mason’s line and line level, layout the location of the posts. Dig the post holes approximately 2 feet deep and 12 feet apart.

Step 2: Set the Posts


Set the 4×4 posts in the holes and using the framing square, make sure they are plumb and square. Brace the posts with scrap lumber and let stand for 24 hours.

Step 3: Install the Beams


Cut 6×6 beams to 12 feet in length. Set them on top of the posts, using the framing square to keep them level and square. Secure with Timberlok screws.

Step 4: Install the Joists


Cut 2×6 treated lumber to the length of the shed. Set them on the beams, spaced 16 inches apart. Secure with Timberlok screws.

Step 5: Install the Siding


Cut T1-11 siding to size and install with 3 1/2″ exterior screws.

Step 6: Install the Roof Sheeting


Install building paper to the roof. Install 2×4 purlins 16 inches on center. Then install the roofing shingles using roofing nails.

Step 7: Build the Door


Cut 2×4 lumber to build the door frame. Install T1-11 siding to the frame. Install the hinges and handle.

Step 8: Add the Finishing Touches


Add trim to the windows and door. Paint or stain the shed to protect it from the elements.
